Every single day, more and more
people upload brand new websites to the Internet. I don't have any
figures but there must be hundreds of thousands of new pages being
added daily (if not considerably more!)
The one thing that all of these new websites need in order to make
their existence worthwhile is traffic, which leads me to one of the
most common questions I am asked and the subject of this newsletter:
'How can you generate traffic to a brand new website?'
Of course, there are a number of different answers to this question and
what I would do myself is probably very different to what a completely
new Internet entrepreneur would do. The reason I say this is that the
first thing I do when launching a new site is make use of my existing
website traffic by advertising the new site on my other established
sites. In addition, I have the luxury of a large mailing list which I
can use to drive traffic to the new site.
I appreciate that anyone starting out in online business won't have
these options open to them (and in fairness, neither did I when I first
started), so let's look at things from the beginning. Day one of your
first website.....
It is a fact that the quickest and probably most effective way of
bringing targeted traffic to your website is by paying for it. Now
before you rush off and sink $50 into one of those '50,000 hits for
$50' schemes, DON'T, this isn't what I mean. Those schemes are largely
a complete waste of money. Even if you get the traffic that you are
promised (as opposed to some software script visiting your site and
pretending to be a visitor), it will not be targeted and therefore
there is a very low chance that the traffic will generate sales. When I
talk about buying traffic, I mean by using the pay- per-click services
offered by most of the big search engines.
You probably already know the sort of thing I mean - for example,
Google Adwords. Pretty much any search on Google will display a list of
adverts down the right-hand side of the page and these are all paid
adverts. Every time you click on one of them, the advertiser pays
Google a fixed amount which could be anything from 5 cents upwards
(depending upon how competitive the keyword is).
Pay-per-click allows you to be very selective about which keywords your
advert is shown for and this allows you to target your advertising
perfectly. Other big names in the pay-per-click market include
Overture, Espotting and Findwhat.
Now, before you all start emailing me and saying that you already knew
about PPC let me just say that I am well aware that people know about
it. The problem (as I see it), is that people aren't using this type of
service because of the fact that they don't want to spend any money on
advertising. That's all well and good but the fact is that the Internet
is getting more and more competitive each day and the chances of you
building a successful website business from scratch without investing
any money are tiny to say the least.
If you want to attract a decent level of traffic to a brand new website
in a short period of time, it is almost a necessity that you use
pay-per-click on one of the main search engines. If you don't, then the
growth of your traffic levels will be painfully slow and inconsistent
at best.
When I launched my very first websites I invested heavily in
pay-per-click advertising. At one point, I was spending over $6000 a
month on Google Adwords alone!!! Seriously I really was spending that
much money. It was a constant battle to tweak the website sales copy
and continue to test the advertisement text just to make sure that my
sales were covering the advertising payments each month. At the time I
was probably just about breaking even but buying traffic in this
quantity meant that I was able to fine-tune my sales pages and start to
build up a list of mailing list subscribers.
Once you have got to the stage where you know your sales pages are
converting visitors into buyers, then you can start to gear up with
other methods of getting traffic to your site - writing articles,
linking strategies, viral methods (eBooks etc), using your eBay 'About
Me' page, using your link as a signature when you post on forums etc.
All of these methods will win you traffic (and in most cases it will be
completely free) but it will take time for the traffic to build to a
worthwhile level. If you rely solely on free traffic, you really will
be building your business one hit at a time.
Of course, once the free methods of gaining traffic start to pay off,
you can begin to wind down your paid methods, though you may not want
to - after all, if you are earning more in sales than you are paying
for your pay-per-click traffic, why stop it?
As your portfolio of websites grows, you will also be able to share the
traffic around a bit by linking to your own sites and of course, if you
are capturing your visitors email addresses, you will be building a
mailing list of people interested in the products you are offering.
Like I say, I appreciate that the above may not be the ground-breaking
secret that you were hoping for but as with so many things online,
there really is no secret. Achieving success is simply about taking
action and whilst you can succeed online by spending very little money,
the chances are that you will succeed a lot quicker by making a bit of
an investment. You don't have to be spending thousands of dollars a
month as I was but any new business owner should be prepared to invest
a few hundred dollars a month in order to get things off the ground....

That's exactly the message I feel I am getting every time I
visit Dmoz.org to try and list another website into its directory. You
visit the site, leave your directory submission (your message), and
never hear from them! Yes, it takes a long time to have your website
reviewed for submission and it gets you thinking if they are even home
in the first place. I have had many questions and complaints about Dmoz
and have tried to answer them as correctly as possible. But the common
question is "when will they return my call?"
For those of you who are new to the term "Dmoz", it is the Open
Directory Project which is the largest and most comprehensive human
edited directory of the web. For your website to be accepted into Dmoz,
it has to be reviewed by a human editor. If accepted, then your site is
seen as a trusted source by search engines, especially Google. Combined
with some SEO work, it will give you that extra boost within the
rankings, however the only problem is that the editors take a long time
to review the websites.
If you take a look at how many volunteer editors they have (71,816 last
time I checked), compared to the number of website submissions they
receive (we're talking hundreds and thousands of websites), then
obviously it will take a long time for the editors to get around to
yours. To add to that, these editors work for free and each one is
assigned to a certain category for reviewing websites. The worst case
scenario, you have a new website that has just been submitted to a
category with the least number of editors monitoring it, which explains
the long waiting time (up to 2 years, if not longer).
When Dmoz first started (1998), it took no longer than 6 weeks to have
you website listed into their directories. With demand now running
high, the wait is a lot longer and editors are a lot more selective.
Nevertheless, there is no need to get frustrated as there are
alternatives to gaining links from a combination of other sources that
are just as effective as a link from Dmoz. For instance, you can submit
your website to various directories such as Yahoo! and find many other
resources on the web on ways to improve your link popularity. If you
perform any search and look at the top five websites, you will notice
that in most cases these websites do not have a Dmoz listing. This
shows that some ethical SEO work and incoming relevant link building
will get you those desired ranks.
Having said all that, there is no need to wait for Dmoz to come around.
All focus should be diverted on other ways to improve your search
engine rankings. If you don't hear from Dmoz, then there is no reason
to get frustrated on their lack of efficiency, for your goals can be
much easily attained through other sources. On the other hand, if you
do hear from Dmoz, take it with a smile and be sure to make good use of
their listing with some search engine optimisation for your website.
You need to look at every aspect of
your business to figure out a number f things. Some of these are:
Where can you trim
expenses without cutting services to your customers?
What product or
service is still making you money in these tough times?
What can you do to
increase the perceived value of your offering?
How can you
economically educate your customers and prospects about your offerings
and get them to understand the wisdom of buying from you now?
How can you retain
your customers knowing they just cannot afford what you are offering
right now?
If you fail to answer these and other
questions, you may see your business fail. You won't be alone. There
are many business owners and consumers that are facing bankruptcy
because of circumstances that might have been beyond their control.
People and businesses that
have enough savings have a little cushion to find the answers they need
to survive but the reality is that everyone except the very rich is
facing the need to adjust or redefine their lifestyle to survive.
Consumers
You need to recognize that
everyone is a consumer. Business owners are consumers themselves AND
have the added responsibility of providing goods and services to you
and wages for their employees and themselves.
You need to be a good
shopper by checking the unit price rather than the total price.
Examine how and where
you shop to find the most economical way to get what you need. This
might mean shopping at a local strip mall that has almost everything
the big box stores do even though the prices are slightly higher. The
difference in the price might be offset by the gas savings when the
strip mall is on a path you travel to or from work.
Do you clip coupons
from your local paper, get coupons off the internet or take advantage
of sales offered by local merchants? If you don't, why not?
Have you talked to
your friends or neighbors to see if it would be possible to carpool or
group buy to save money?
Some local businesses
are starting to offer deep discounts or even free meals to kids on
certain week days when there is at least one adult buying at the
regular price. If you find a deal like this, you may still be able to
afford a night out for the family without busting the budget.
Group buying isn't a new
concept but it is evolving in that both business owners and consumers
need to give it a harder look. Coupons and discounts are being
re-examined by many but I think the thing that everyone needs to be
more aware of is the value we are receiving for our money.
Are the goods, services,
training or education you are thinking about buying going to enhance
your life, help you in your career or help you in your business? If the
answer is no, you might need to examine your budget to see if this want
is necessary.
If you are thinking about
starting a home based business to supplement your income, you need to
pick one or two people to be your mentors and take action. Ignore sales
copy from other marketers UNLESS it can be used to learn your business
and make your daily chores easier.
Anyone that's thinking
about starting a home based business should seriously consider taking

searching for Cadillac's. Although you are involve with real estate you
decide to cash in on the traffic. So you drop the word Cadillac on your
site a couple times and add it in your description. My friend even if
you get traffic this way, those users are searching for Cadillac's not
real estate and you will get browsed over. Take my advice keep to the
subject of your website and use keywords that are synonymous with your
subject. I hope I don't have to explain that. I was never a pro at
English. I am a tech guy.
Lets fast forward. Your user have found
you in the search engines. Finally. After all that hard work they are
finally on your website. It would be a good thing to have a properly
designed website, well organized with easy navigation, or you will lose
those users you have worked so hard to acquire.
Even then, you can't rest on your
laurels, or your page-hit statistics. Your next challenge is to turn
those casual visitors into repeat customers by
giving them reasons to come back for more. You are smart, you can come

Forget any advertisement you see for instant number one search results
or automated this or that. Most are scams, and the ones that aren't
might get you positioned, but it will be very short lived.
Search engine optimization is an ongoing process. Achieving and
maintaining a high rank, especially on highly competitive keywords,
requires constant maintenance. If you do find a legitimate SEO firm, it
is well worth the money to pay their monthly maintenance fee and let
them continue to help you after the initial project. At least for 6
months or a year as you establish yourself.
In this article we'll look at some of the intricate and complex tasks
of optimizing a page for long term ranking power. You will learn how to
read between the code and the content to find what is necessary to

shoes, sneakers, high heels, etc. If somehow you manage to settle into
a good ranking (which would be difficult) you would have more traffic
on your site than you could handle. But traffic is worthless is it
doesn't get to it's destination. Chances are, you weren't that
destination.
Your keywords must be focused and precise, specific to what you are
selling. Using a key phrase like "Gucci mens black leather loafer" will
bring a targeted lead to your site. You may not reach as many people as
the more generalized keyword, but the people that do come to you have a
much deeper interest in the specific product you are selling.
Therefore you have much greater chance of converting that targeted lead
to a sale. Your keywords are your magic beans, your winning lotto
numbers, your energizer bunnies, your sales force, whatever you want to
call them. They must be perfect.
STEP 2- WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE? LOOK AT WHO ALREADY IS
Competition Analysis- no SEO book can give you this information.
Now take your keyword list and type them into a search engine. Who
comes up in the first ten results? That company that is number one is
because they have most closely matched what the search engine algorithm
says should be number one. You can learn a great deal from them.
A. INTERNAL FACTORS
Take that number one page, and the other top 9 pages and study them,
look at the code, break them down. You are looking at the first half of
what is needed to rank in the top 10 pages for your key phrases on that
particular search engine. The list of what to look for is enormous.
Studying the Internal Factors on a page is taking it apart to see how
it's put together. Not how it works, but statistical research into the
precise construct and layout of keywords and phrases in relation to
each other within the page.
Start with these areas:
URL address, Page Title, Meta description, Meta Keywords, First
sentence on the page, Body copy, Bold or Emphasized Phrases, H1 or
other tags, Alt Tags, Navigation system
In each of those sections, look at:
Keyword densities- the number of times your phrase and each word in
your phrase appears compared to the text around it
Where and in how many times the same phrase and words appear in
different sections
The word and character position of each phrase in each
The total number of characters
The total number of words
The quality and thought of the content
Beginning with these comparisons should keep you quite busy for a
while. A spreadsheet is quite useful. Some commercial products are also
available that can make this daunting task much more feasible. Keep
looking for other patterns and differences. You want to duplicate them
in your own page. NOT copy and steal. You want to mimic the patterns
that are bringing that page to the position it is. Then move onto to
examining the external factors of these pages.
B. EXTERNAL FACTORS
External factors of a web page deal with the links to, from and within
a web page, both inside the same site, and out into the web. This
analysis usually takes more time because it involves more dissection of
pages beyond the one you're trying to optimize.
In this analysis as with Internal Factors, you want to compare and
contrast your page versus the top 10 competitors, find similarities and
differences. Here is a list of criteria to get you started.
Number of internal (to the same site) on that page
Number of external links
Number of links pointing TO that page* (see below for details)
The link/anchor text- which keywords are used and where
Google Page Rank value of incoming links
Alexa Rank of incoming links
*To get a listing of the links that point to a site, type the following
into Google, MSN and Yahoo searches: "link:www.domainname.com". Google
tends to only show a small portion of the links back, but MSN and Yahoo
will give you much more pertinent data.
Now you want to compare the content on each of these pages to the one
they point to. Is it of similar theme, in what context does the link
back appear and where. Subject of much debate, the consensus is that
Google Page Rank does not mean what it used to. However, if it is in
some fashion a measure of how significant or "important" a site is, it
is worth looking more closely at the sites that link back that are of
high page rank.
EVEN A SURGEON USES TOOLS
Now, this is definitely a ton of work to do all by hand. There are
software programs that can help do some of the digging and mathematical
computations for you, figuring out densities and organizing
information.
Tools like this are definitely ones a professional SEO will have in
their arsenal. But remember, these are tools, not miracle workers. It
takes a human being to evaluate and realize connections, similarities,
draw conclusions and interpret the data. Then, you have to extrapolate
this data.
Remember, you want to do one better than every site you just examined.
To do that you have to draw some conclusions and make some educated
guesses and link to even better sites.
FINAL THOUGHTS
You have access to the inner workings of every page that you want to
beat. Learn from them and do one better. This process is not a one-time
shot. It is ongoing. Check your key phrases every week. Do the same
people still rank in the top ten?
Some have probably moved. Remember too that they're going to adapt to
maintain their positions too. If you want the ranks, you have to spend
the time, and not just once, or pay someone to do it for you.
Don't ever believe anyone who says they can guarantee any kind of
results. And ask them how they will optimize your pages. If they
explain to you something like the above, then you've probably got
yourself someone experienced and honest. You money will be well spent
and you'll quickly recover it.

Every single day, more and more
people upload brand new websites to the Internet. I don't have any
figures but there must be hundreds of thousands of new pages being
added daily (if not considerably more!)
The one thing that all of these new websites need in order to make
their existence worthwhile is traffic, which leads me to one of the
most common questions I am asked and the subject of this newsletter:
'How can you generate traffic to a brand new website?'
Of course, there are a number of different answers to this question and
what I would do myself is probably very different to what a completely
new Internet entrepreneur would do. The reason I say this is that the
first thing I do when launching a new site is make use of my existing
website traffic by advertising the new site on my other established
sites. In addition, I have the luxury of a large mailing list which I
can use to drive traffic to the new site.
I appreciate that anyone starting out in online business won't have
these options open to them (and in fairness, neither did I when I first
started), so let's look at things from the beginning. Day one of your
first website.....
It is a fact that the quickest and probably most effective way of
bringing targeted traffic to your website is by paying for it. Now
before you rush off and sink $50 into one of those '50,000 hits for
$50' schemes, DON'T, this isn't what I mean. Those schemes are largely
a complete waste of money. Even if you get the traffic that you are
promised (as opposed to some software script visiting your site and
pretending to be a visitor), it will not be targeted and therefore
there is a very low chance that the traffic will generate sales. When I
talk about buying traffic, I mean by using the pay- per-click services
offered by most of the big search engines.
You probably already know the sort of thing I mean - for example,
Google Adwords. Pretty much any search on Google will display a list of
adverts down the right-hand side of the page and these are all paid
adverts. Every time you click on one of them, the advertiser pays
Google a fixed amount which could be anything from 5 cents upwards
(depending upon how competitive the keyword is).
Pay-per-click allows you to be very selective about which keywords your
advert is shown for and this allows you to target your advertising
perfectly. Other big names in the pay-per-click market include
Overture, Espotting and Findwhat.
Now, before you all start emailing me and saying that you already knew
about PPC let me just say that I am well aware that people know about
it. The problem (as I see it), is that people aren't using this type of
service because of the fact that they don't want to spend any money on
advertising. That's all well and good but the fact is that the Internet
is getting more and more competitive each day and the chances of you
building a successful website business from scratch without investing
any money are tiny to say the least.
If you want to attract a decent level of traffic to a brand new website
in a short period of time, it is almost a necessity that you use
pay-per-click on one of the main search engines. If you don't, then the
growth of your traffic levels will be painfully slow and inconsistent
at best.
When I launched my very first websites I invested heavily in
pay-per-click advertising. At one point, I was spending over $6000 a
month on Google Adwords alone!!! Seriously I really was spending that
much money. It was a constant battle to tweak the website sales copy
and continue to test the advertisement text just to make sure that my
sales were covering the advertising payments each month. At the time I
was probably just about breaking even but buying traffic in this
quantity meant that I was able to fine-tune my sales pages and start to
build up a list of mailing list subscribers.
Once you have got to the stage where you know your sales pages are
converting visitors into buyers, then you can start to gear up with
other methods of getting traffic to your site - writing articles,
linking strategies, viral methods (eBooks etc), using your eBay 'About
Me' page, using your link as a signature when you post on forums etc.
All of these methods will win you traffic (and in most cases it will be
completely free) but it will take time for the traffic to build to a
worthwhile level. If you rely solely on free traffic, you really will
be building your business one hit at a time.
Of course, once the free methods of gaining traffic start to pay off,
you can begin to wind down your paid methods, though you may not want
to - after all, if you are earning more in sales than you are paying
for your pay-per-click traffic, why stop it?
As your portfolio of websites grows, you will also be able to share the
traffic around a bit by linking to your own sites and of course, if you
are capturing your visitors email addresses, you will be building a
mailing list of people interested in the products you are offering.
Like I say, I appreciate that the above may not be the ground-breaking
secret that you were hoping for but as with so many things online,
there really is no secret. Achieving success is simply about taking
action and whilst you can succeed online by spending very little money,
the chances are that you will succeed a lot quicker by making a bit of
an investment. You don't have to be spending thousands of dollars a
month as I was but any new business owner should be prepared to invest
a few hundred dollars a month in order to get things off the ground....
The most difficult challenge most
web designers face is getting traffic to your site. There are plenty of
companies who promise to send traffic your way. Sadly, most of this
traffic is not qualified. Yes, your hit counter will move higher,
however, if it’s not qualified, you may find you have unhappy visitors
to your site. Unhappy visitors will not click on your ads or purchase
your products.
Once you have optimized your site, consider submitting it to every
search engine. If you want to get spidered quicker in Google, have a
web page with a PR of 4 or higher point to your site. Your site will be
spidered within a couple of days!
One myth I would like to bust is that PR is a measure of a web site.
Its not. I receive countless emails offering a reciprocal link with
their PR5 or PR6 site. Unless my link is appearing on the main page, or
a page that has PR6, I am not getting a share of PR6. Most likely, my
link will appear on a page that has a PR2!
Page rank is Google's ranking of that specific page's relevance. Just
because the main page has a PR of 4, does not make every page on the
site a PR4. Beware of sites who claim that they will exchange links
with you and it’s to your benefit since they have a PR5 or PR6. Where
is your link appearing? If it’s on a page that has a PR of 4 or 5 or 6,
great!
Reciprocal linking, if done properly, will ensure that your keywords
are at the top of the search engine. If you have a popular keyword, you
all need to have more back links. Pick your link partners properly, and
ensure that they are linking to your keyword.
For example: if your site is www.joesdinner.com, consider sending out
requests to relevant higher ranking pages to start with, followed by
lower ranking pages and ask web designers to link back in a manner so
that your url is a hyperlink for your keyword, not your site url or
site name.
Presuming their keyword is "best dining in newyork", having links
pointing to your site with an anchor tag incorporating your keywords
will improve your search engine rankings dramatically.
Once you have established a collection of sites pointing to your site
using your keywords, you will start receiving reciprocal link exchanges
from other sites. This is where you can start to be particular.
If you want to maintain an effective PR and attract better sites for
linking, follow these tips:
a) Is it indexed?
While their site may be indexed, the page where they are placing your
link, is it at least indexed by Google? If you type in
allinurl:www.sitename.com/links/right_here.html and there are no
results, consider declining their offer. If the page your link appears
on has not been indexed, there is no benefit whatsoever to you. If your
pages have PR, they may consider placing your link on another page. If
the page your link appears on is indexed, but does not have PR,
consider accepting their offer. While the page today may not have PR,
it will in time.
b) How many neighbors?
The value of the page rank is shared with each of the links on that
page. If you are splitting that PR with several other sites, your share
of PR will be small, which doesnt help you. Reconsider accepting any
link exchanges if your site is 1 of more than 30 - 40 sites that will
appear on that page, unless its a very high PR. Further, if there are
too many links on that page, Google may consider the page to be part of
a link farm, which may end up penalizing your site.
c) Is it relevant?
Google is big on relevancy. Ensure your links pages are relevant. If
you operate a site about golf, having links from cooking sites will not
help you establish your page rank. It may cost you more than you get in
return.
How to Find Good PR sites:
a) Do a search for them by typing in your keyword and start asking for
reciprocal link exchanges. Take a look at their PR and go from there.
Remember, its the number of sites that backline to you that matters,
not strictly the PR of the page. I would rather have 50 pages that have
a PR1 pointing to my site, than to have 5 sites that have a PR5. Of
course, if you can get 50 pages that have a PR5 pointing to your site,
you are laughing!
b) Take a look at your existing link partners and check out their links
pages. Its clear the people appearing on those links pages are
interested in reciprocating.
c) Purchase software that will help finds quality link partners.
It is important to attract higher PR sites when you are on a reciprocal
link campaign. However, it’s not the most important thing when it comes
to search engine rankings. Its the back links that point back at you
that are key. The more of those, the better off you will be for your
keyword.
Remember: every page starts off as a PR0. Just because it’s new doesn’t
mean it won’t get a higher PR once Google gets around to assessing a
score. If the page your site appears on is indexed, and its a relevant
site of quality, consider exchanging links. You'll grow a large list of
link partners in a short period of time, and increase your search
engine rankings in the process.

This toolbar is essential and a must have when it comes to locating
super-affiliate's and the reason why is because it reveals the 'Traffic
Ranking' for that particular website you are viewing making it easier
for you to tell the difference between the super-affiliate's and the
other website's that are just getting by.

Now... for the numbers.
When I'm searching for an super-affiliate related to my Product,
Service and/or any of the affiliate programs I am promoting via the
search engines and I happen to come across a website that has a traffic
ranking of 50,000 or lower using the Alexa toolbar to gauge the TR then
these are the website's where the super-affiliate's reside and are the
ones I will want to contact with a business proposition.
As a general rule using website analysis, the lower the TR, the BETTER.
Why?
Because it means that particular website is receiving Lots... and Lots
of traffic which is just what you're looking for.
Now... that's the general idea behind locating super-affiliate's
through website analysis and the search engines.
This next part I'm going to show you where to locate the
super-affiliate's with HUGE targeted mailing lists.
This is where you stand to benefit the most and could in turn make a
substantial amount of money within the next 24 hours of your business
proposition if accepted by the list owner.
The best places to locate an 'Super-Affiliate' with a HUGE mailing list
are through eZine/Newsletter directories. I've listed a few of the Top
directories below to save you the hassle of having to search for them
yourself.

The Bigger the list size, the BETTER.
But... as a general rule I would have to say that any ezine/newsletter
owner with a list size of 75,000 or more subscribers I would consider
an 'Super-Affiliate'.
Remember, this is just a general guide line.
Don't discard the list owners with smaller lists. The more
eZine/Newsletter owners you contact the greater your chances are of
SUCCESS!

Well, it's actually quite simple.
If you own your own Product and/or offer a Service, and this will even
work if your an affiliate to someone else's program, all you have to do
is simply locate and approach related website and/or ezine/newsletter
owners with a JV(Joint Venture) and/or business proposition offering
them a reasonable share(percentage) of the profits if they were to
accept your business proposal.

visitor. And the chances are that you would label me a liar and a scam

“How did I do it?” you ask.

banner impressions sending you trickle traffic, and more and more
emails never arrive because of the spam filters, it’s time to look at
direct mail.
And yes of course it’s going to cost you money to send a mail shot. But
if you’ve tweaked and tested your website to convert the maximum amount
of visitors, if you have setup up your automated backend sales process.
Believe me; direct mail is one of the best ways of driving laser
targeted visitors to your site, people who already have a proven track
record of BUYING products similar to what you offer. Yes I’ve repeated
myself, but I want you to “get” that little piece of advice.
So as your email open rates dwindle to dust, and you find it harder and
harder to generate quality website traffic. Remember the lowly

Miva support. Its learning curve is steep, and it requires the support
of people who know how to work with it.
With the price and the steep learning curve, you get more features, and
you can customize the program more. Add-in modules can be bought that
perform a number of tasks. In addition, a strong support community is
available in the Miva user group forums.
Step 3: Get a merchant account and payment gateway
When customers arrive at the checkout counter; you need a way for their
payments to be transferred from their credit card accounts to your bank
account. The method you choose may depend on your sales volume.
For high-volume sales, an e-commerce merchant account plus a payment
gateway will meet your needs. A merchant account provider authorizes
the transfer of payments to your account, and a payment gateway
transfers the information from your customers’ financial institutions
to yours.
Most merchant accounts have setup fees, transaction fees, monthly fees,
and statement fees. The transaction fees are less than what you’d pay
using a third party credit card processor such as PayPal. With all the
fees, however, the overall cost is typically lower only if your monthly
sales volume is over about a thousand dollars.
For medium and low volume sales, Pay Quake and PayPal are viable
options.
Pay Quake
Pay Quake offers three merchant account types to choose from. Although
they all require payment gateways, the two smaller plans have no

PayPal has become a household name. Customers can send payment through
PayPal via credit card or via money that they transfer into their

In parts 1 and 2 of this series we discussed what your first two priorities should be for buying website traffic (PPC search engines and ezine advertising). Next, let's talk about borrowing traffic.
There are 2 traffic borrowing strategies that we'll talk about here.

There's no disguising the fact that the print books, eBooks and reports written on these two strategies number in the hundreds and even thousands. Therefore, I'll make no attempt to provide comprehensive treatment on either of them.
However, they're both important and worthy of at least a primer. So, let's start with search engines.
If you want to make money with your website today, this week or this year, what is the absolute worst investment of your time?
Search engine optimization.
I know that some marketers don't want to hear this, but it's a fact for some of the reasons stated above and plenty of others. The mathematical (imp)probabilities of achieving a top ranking for a search phrase that will result in meaningful traffic that includes buyers is… let's just say the odds aren't in your favor.
There are strategies that work with search engines to drive traffic to websites, but one thing they absolutely do not include is any attempt to optimize a sales page or for that matter an entire website that's designed to convert visitors into customers. The strategies that work with search engines offer them what they crave most, which is content. Perhaps in the future we can discuss this in some detail.
The next big time waster that's closely related to search engine optimization is submitting your website to the search engines. If your site won't be listed in the top 2, 3 or 4 pages of a search engine, nobody's going to see it anyways. This debate rages back and forth even with SEO experts who make their full time living doing nothing but consulting on SEO. Submit? Don't submit?

I KNOW that there are talented writers online who have not capitalized on their writing skills yet.
If you're in this group, you need to write and submit articles.
IF YOU'RE NOT IN THIS GROUP, you need to write and submit articles.
You see, nobody is out there grading you. Google does not moralize over your ability (or lack thereof) to write a coherent article. Google will, however, spider the links back to your IBSoftShop if you include it in your article's resource box. The more you do this, the better you'll get.
Writing and submitting articles is a long term approach to generating traffic that you should start right now. Set time aside weekly to consistently get your name and your site's URL out there in various article directories. Can you spare one hour a week? If yes, do this.

There are others too, but who really benefits from a start page network, exit traffic exchange, safe list or FFA page? The person who owns and runs it. They benefit because they get to market to you and you get to market to other people who want nothing other than free traffic. Remember free traffic? Forget it.
You could spend the next year whiling away the hours on free traffic schemes or you could find PPC traffic that will turn your $10 investment into $49.85 in profit and then duplicate this success 10 times, 50 times or 100 times. Which will you choose?

For explanation purposes, the sample company is a shoe retailer called John's Sports, and the keyword phrase being optimized for is "red Reebok tennis shoes".
Webmasters and search engine optimisation (SEO), practitioners appreciate that quality links from other web sites are one of the foundations to getting found on the Internet. Without quality inbound links, it is highly unlikely a web page will appear at the top of the search engine results pages, except for obscure terms that nobody actually searches on.

Links on mature sites that link to new sites will mean that the new sites will get spidered and indexed faster than manual site submission. Without links it can take as long as six months to get indexed, with links it can take as little as a few days.
Key word phrase in anchor text

Unfortunately a lot of people don't know this an end up putting their company name in the link text rather than the keyword phrase that they want their company to be found by. Much better that they link anchor says "red Reebok tennis shoes" than "John's Sports Store".
The link is from a relevant page
Google, and the Google-powered search partners, seek relevance in the interconnectedness of web pages. Incoming links should be from pages where the content on that page is related to the content of the page that is being linked to. A fishing related page linking to a casino site is an example of a non-related link. A jogging related page linking to a red Reebok tennis shoes product page is related and is looked upon favourably by the search engines.
The link goes to a relevant page
Another mistake that people make is always linking to the home page rather than to the most relevant page to the anchor text. If the link anchor text is "red Reebok tennis shoes" then the link should go to a page about red Reebok tennis shoes, not the home page. This is by far and away the most common linking mistake.
The link is from a site with authority and credibility
Links from sites with good Google Page Rank are worth more, a lot more, than links from other sites. It's all about credibility. A link from a trusted site tells the search engines that the sites linked to are also trusted - it's a vote of confidence from a credible source. This is why companies pay celebrities millions of dollars for product endorsements. The celebrities seem to be a trusted source. Links from .gov, and .edu sites are also reported as having more weight than standard links. They are also more difficult to get which adds to their perceived quality.
The link is at top of the page
Links from the top of a page (except for the header advertising zone), are said to have more weight than links at the bottom of pages. It's the same with keyword phrases. A keyword phrase in the heading of a paragraph is worth more than in the body text.
The link is one-way, not two-way
Google's pspecial algorithm looks for link exchanges between sites and rates these links lower than straight one-way links. If possible, look for one way links by creating link bait - compelling content that will encourage people to link to your pages. Link bait can include cool online tools, funny videos, jokes, how-to guides and fact sheets.
The link is within the body of the page - not an advertising area
Linking should be a natural part of the body copy. Recent reports suggest that the search engines will discount links from parts of the page that are traditionally sold for advertising. These tend to be the margins, header and footer areas of the page.
The link does not have a nofollow tag
The nofollow tag is a recent innovation that tells the search engines that although I am linking to this other page, I do not vouch for the page's integrity. In short, the nofollow tag tells the search engines to ignore the link. Obviously you do not want links to your web pages to have nofollow tags. Be careful with link exchanges. Some dishonest people will exchange links with you, but use nofollow tags in the links to your pages to preserve their own link power.
There are few links on page (less than 20)
One link to your web site from a page with hundreds of links does little for your SEO results. The page's SEO power is being distributed over all the other links on the page. Goole's guidelines recommend no more than 100 links per page, but I believe 20 is a reasonable goal. You never know when the Google algorithm may change. The perfect page that links to your pages should have no more than 20 links.

You may not reach as many people as the more generalized keyword, but the people that do come to you have a much deeper interest in the specific product you are selling.
Therefore you have much greater chance of converting that targeted lead to a sale. Your keywords are your magic beans, your winning lotto numbers, your energizer bunnies, your sales force, whatever you want to call them. They must be perfect.
STEP 2- WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE? LOOK AT WHO ALREADY IS
Competition Analysis- no SEO book can give you this information.
Now take your keyword list and type them into a search engine. Who comes up in the first ten results? That company that is number one is because they have most closely matched what the search engine algorithm says should be number one. You can learn a great deal from them.
A. INTERNAL FACTORS
Take that number one page, and the other top 9 pages and study them, look at the code, break them down. You are looking at the first half of what is needed to rank in the top 10 pages for your key phrases on that particular search engine. The list of what to look for is enormous.
Studying the Internal Factors on a page is taking it apart to see how it's put together. Not how it works, but statistical research into the precise construct and layout of keywords and phrases in relation to each other within the page.
Start with these areas:
URL address, Page Title, Meta description, Meta Keywords, First sentence on the page, Body copy, Bold or Emphasized Phrases, H1 or other tags, Alt Tags, Navigation system
In each of those sections, look at:
Keyword densities- the number of times your phrase and each word in your phrase appears compared to the text around it
Where and in how many times the same phrase and words appear in different sections
The word and character position of each phrase in each
The total number of characters
The total number of words
The quality and thought of the content
Beginning with these comparisons should keep you quite busy for a while. A spreadsheet is quite useful. Some commercial products are also available that can make this daunting task much more feasible. Keep looking for other patterns and differences. You want to duplicate them in your own page. NOT copy and steal. You want to mimic the patterns that are bringing that page to the position it is. Then move onto to examining the external factors of these pages.
B. EXTERNAL FACTORS
External factors of a web page deal with the links to, from and within a web page, both inside the same site, and out into the web. This analysis usually takes more time because it involves more dissection of pages beyond the one you're trying to optimize.
In this analysis as with Internal Factors, you want to compare and contrast your page versus the top 10 competitors, find similarities and differences. Here is a list of criteria to get you started.
Number of internal (to the same site) on that page
Number of external links
Number of links pointing TO that page* (see below for details)
The link/anchor text- which keywords are used and where
Google Page Rank value of incoming links
Alexa Rank of incoming links
*To get a listing of the links that point to a site, type the following into Google, MSN and Yahoo searches: "link:www.domainname.com". Google tends to only show a small portion of the links back, but MSN and Yahoo will give you much more pertinent data.
Now you want to compare the content on each of these pages to the one they point to. Is it of similar theme, in what context does the link back appear and where. Subject of much debate, the consensus is that Google Page Rank does not mean what it used to. However, if it is in some fashion a measure of how significant or "important" a site is, it is worth looking more closely at the sites that link back that are of high page rank.
EVEN A SURGEON USES TOOLS
Now, this is definitely a ton of work to do all by hand. There are software programs that can help do some of the digging and mathematical computations for you, figuring out densities and organizing information.
Tools like this are definitely ones a professional SEO will have in their arsenal. But remember, these are tools, not miracle workers. It takes a human being to evaluate and realize connections, similarities, draw conclusions and interpret the data. Then, you have to extrapolate this data.
Remember, you want to do one better than every site you just examined. To do that you have to draw some conclusions and make some educated guesses and link to even better sites.
FINAL THOUGHTS
You have access to the inner workings of every page that you want to beat. Learn from them and do one better. This process is not a one-time shot. It is ongoing. Check your key phrases every week. Do the same people still rank in the top ten?
Some have probably moved. Remember too that they're going to adapt to maintain their positions too. If you want the ranks, you have to spend the time, and not just once, or pay someone to do it for you.

As links of those freepages are in "Linking Strategy Experiment 2"
which is part of the same RSS Feed publishing this blog, needless to
say that Google will find there all links not listed here and will
count votes for these and those links for as many pages where they
appear.
I 'daisy' chained all
categories of 10 of my SEO
portals so that Google spider will retreive all links (with or without hyperlinks) adden
in these
categories. Suffice for Google spider to find one of these portals
listed each of my article freepage.
First time, I used to
add here the last one
of the 1-Family URLs daisy
chained and drilled
in Gold Veretekk System . But Search
Engine Spider Simulator acheived to convince me to add the
last
1-Family URL drilled in one SEO category where Google spider will
definively find it too.
By the way I tested
http://jackye.veretekk.com
with a Search
Engine Spider Simulator.
The first time, it
found about 113 spiderable links.

My username in silver
Veretekk account is
"homebased" not "home based" which has not the same keyword
Effectivness Indice (KEI). I choosed "homebased" because of its high
KEI 1
344,915 while the KEI of "home based" is only 0,002. So "homebased" is
part of the subdomain name of my silver account.
What is KEI exactly? Here
is the definition I
found in the help section of Web
CEO
software I use to find this kind of keyword: "The Keyword Effectiveness
Index (KEI) compares the keyword's Daily World Searches value to the
number of Web pages competing for the given keyword. This helps you
pinpoint the keywords that are good enough to optimize your website
for. Keywords with the highest KEI combine higher popularity and less
competition. That means you will have more chances to attain high
rankings in case you use these keywords for optimization".
What is the real importance
of KEI? Only SEO
masters such as Butch Hamilton, John Vrouletis and the like can answer
this question. What I know now for sure first from the training with
Vrouletis and second, at a Sunday Conference, from Tom Prendergast
himself is
that Google "loves" it. The
very next day after
hearing Prendergast on the importance of having a keyword embedded in
the domain name I signed up for a silver account with this keyword I
did not know before what to do with its KEI.
It seems to me that the
power of RSS Feed is
making "daisy" chaining Veretekk Portals obsolete. But before
undoing my daisy chain in my Gold Portals I will take advises from my
trainers
and I will expose their responses here. On the other hand, there are
SEO Portals I "daisy" chained all categories together then, in my
understanding, suffice to submit one the category URL to Goolgle for
the spider to find all portal links I may have submit there. Simply
put, we have now with SEO portals and the BlogFather RSS feed a lot
more options to make things interconnected an easier way.

2007,
John Vrouletis told me "you can do that" speaking about RSS Feed
replacing the daisy chaining. So I definitively will free links for
more link exchange...
Every
couple of days I add one new blog in BlogFather and at the same I make
it a website page. I choosed to have no more than 5
at a
time. Every couple of days I delete one blog but remember I
have already made all my blogs noble for the rest of their life by
uploading them as a keyword
rich content website
pages. Links of these "has
been" blogs are here to ease the crawling of the Google spider as they
all are
pointing to several sites of mine.
Then at the end of the day,
once a week, I
